What Shapes My Thinking

The experiences that continue to influence how I observe, learn, create, and design.

Teaching & Mentoring

Teaching & Mentoring

For years I taught, wrote curriculum, and mentored students — watching closely how people actually learn, where they get stuck, and what quietly makes them give up.

What I learned. I learned that behavior is a signal. Confusion, hesitation, and disengagement are rarely about effort — they're about how something was designed to be understood.

How it changed me. It made me patient and observant. I stopped assuming people would adapt to a system and started asking how the system could meet them where they already are.

How it influences my design today. Today I design for clarity, pacing, and confidence — reducing cognitive load and building experiences that help people succeed on their very first attempt.

Creativity & Making

Creativity & Making

Painting, fashion design, craft, and sketching taught me to think with my hands — turning vague ideas into something I could see, hold, and question.

What I learned. I learned that the first idea is rarely the right one. Exploration comes before execution, and the best solutions emerge only after many honest, imperfect attempts.

How it changed me. It made me comfortable with ambiguity and unafraid to discard work. Iteration stopped feeling like failure and started feeling like the process itself.

How it influences my design today. Today I prototype early and widely, exploring many directions before committing — so decisions are made with evidence, not attachment to a first draft.

Community & Human Connection

Community & Human Connection

Wonder Kids Activity Club

Running the Wonder Kids Activity Club and working closely with children and their parents put me in the middle of real human behavior — trust, belonging, and connection.

What I learned. I learned that people don't just want to use something — they want to feel seen by it. Belonging and dignity shape behavior far more than features do.

How it changed me. It deepened my empathy and taught me to notice the people a system quietly overlooks, especially those least likely to speak up.

How it influences my design today. Today I design for connection and dignity — building products that feel human, inclusive, and considerate of the people too often left unseen.

Writing & Education

Writing & Education

Author of two B.Ed books

Co-authoring two B.Ed academic books meant taking dense, complex ideas and shaping them into something a learner could genuinely absorb and use.

What I learned. I learned that clarity is a form of respect. If an idea feels complicated, the problem is usually the explanation — not the reader.

How it changed me. It sharpened my ability to structure information, cut what isn't needed, and communicate a message so it lands the first time.

How it influences my design today. Today I bring that discipline to product thinking — designing clear flows, honest copy, and interfaces that explain themselves without a manual.

Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship

Online Reseller · 2020–2022

Running an online reselling business from 2020 to 2022 put me face to face with customers, pricing, sales, and the fragile thing that holds it all together — trust.

What I learned. I learned that every decision is a trade-off, and that understanding customer behavior matters more than any assumption I could make from the outside.

How it changed me. It made me think in outcomes and value, not just features — weighing effort, impact, and what actually moves someone to act.

How it influences my design today. Today I bring product thinking grounded in real behavior — connecting design decisions to business goals, user needs, and measurable impact.

Leadership

Leadership

DFC · Decoded DFC · AWIANA · VOUCH

Leading multidisciplinary teams across DFC, Decoded DFC, AWIANA, and VOUCH — and facilitating workshops — meant aligning people with different skills toward one shared outcome.

What I learned. I learned that the hardest part of design isn't the design — it's the collaboration, the decisions, and the trust required to move a team forward together.

How it changed me. It taught me to listen first, make decisions transparent, and create the conditions where other people can do their best work.

How it influences my design today. Today I approach product design as a team sport — facilitating clarity, guiding decisions, and turning diverse perspectives into a coherent direction.

Why I Design

I didn't become interested in design because I wanted to create beautiful interfaces. I became interested in understanding people.

Growing up around education, entrepreneurship, and community building taught me that meaningful products begin with empathy, curiosity, and careful observation.

Whether I'm conducting research, facilitating workshops, mentoring teams, or designing digital experiences, my goal remains the same: to help people learn, connect, and grow.

I believe the best products are not remembered because they look beautiful. They're remembered because they make someone's life a little easier, a little more confident, or a little more connected.
